Rilo Kiley
"Science vs. Romance"
Take Offs and Landings
Official Site | Wiki | iTunes | Hypem | Lyrics
Rilo Kiley consists of Jenny Lewis (solo project), Blake Sennett (The Elected), Mike Bloom (solo project and The Elected), Pierre De Reeder (solo project), and Jason Boesel (The Elected). This song feels so good, if that makes any sense, even though the lyrics are little on the downer side. I could listen to this all day and not get tired of it... but not two days in a row... that would be too much. They also did a reworked version of this song called "Variations On A Theme [Science vs. Romance]" using synths. It's a little over 30 seconds long. 0's and 1's vs. x's and o's.

Desaparecidos
"$$$$"

Desaparecidos was a side project from Conor Oberst and other Saddle Creek musicians. They only released one album before they disbanded in 2003 and became part of other bands. The song is about Corporate America.

Bright Eyes
"I Must Belong Somewhere"
Cassadaga
Official Site | SC Minisite | iTunes | Hypem | Lyrics
Conor Oberst sang on "A Line Allows Progress, A Circle Does Not" with Son, Ambulance's Joe Knapp (that's the connection between this post and the previous).
"That song was written at the height of an intense panic attack," Oberst explained. "I was in this sort of creepy German hotel room freaking out and I couldn't get my heart to slow down, I couldn't catch my breath. I calmed down by listing everything I could think of and its place in the world -- not where I designed it to be, but where it is. 'Why don't you leave me here?' is the idea that sometimes you have to sit still and be where you are regardless of any expectations or plans you might have made or things people want you to do for any reason. It's about being content in your own skin."

Son, Ambulance
"The Invention of Beauty"
Oh Holy Fools: The Music of Son, Ambulance & Bright Eyes
Official Site | SC Minisite | iTunes | Hypem | Lyrics
Son, Ambulance is another Saddle Creek band. I like the way this song segues from Mayday's "Lost Serenade", both harmonically and lyrically.

Mayday
"Lost Serenade"
I Know Your Troubles Been Long
Official Site | iTunes | Hypem | Lyrics
Mayday is a band fronted by Ted Stevens from Cursive. This song has a jazzy, down-tempo influence, but not all of their songs are like this. Some are folky, some are alt-rock, some are upbeat-dancy, some are Cursive-like.
I'll be posting Saddle Creek artists for the next couple of entries, all with some sort of connection since they all seem to work on each other's albums. And then probably integrate them all into one post on WeHeartMusic.

The Good Life
"Off the Beaten Path"
Black Out
Saddle Creek Minisite | iTunes | Hypem | Lyrics
Tim Kasher, who fronts Cursive, started The Good Life as a solo project, but it blossomed into a band. Just like Conor Obert's Bright Eyes, The Good Life features a rotating cast of band members (not as many as Bright Eyes), but have four at its core.

"The Rhyme Scheme"
The Storms of Early Summer: Semantics of Song
Official Site | iTunes | Hypem | Lyrics
I was tempted to post a song from The Ugly Organ, but I feel that album is best listened to as a full album and not individual songs. So, I posted this one.
"words are always repeating, losing their meaning"
