Amos Lee
"Sweet Pea"
Supply and Demand
Official Site | Wiki | iTunes | MySpace | Lyrics
Similar Artists: Ray LaMontagne • Joshua Radin • Ben Harper
Amos Lee is a singer-songwriter from Philadelphia, PA. He's signed to Blue Note Records, the same label as Norah Jones and Priscilla Ahn. In 2006, he performed at the Hotel Café with Ahn for his song "Black River". He's currently on a solo tour, but beginning in late September, he'll be touring with Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello.
I like how the tempos of Lee's "Sweet Pea" and Ahn's "Are We Different?" are similar. They segue nicely lyrically and harmonically.

Kate Nash
"Habanera (Tango Version)"
Foundations - Single
Official Site | MySpace | Amazon | Hypem | Lyrics
Similar Artists: Lily Allen • Regina Spektor • St. Vincent
Kate Nash is a London-born musician. Music blogs and mags are comparing her to Lily Allen and Regina Spektor which is spot on since her music is a perfect combination of the two musicians. Nash is already being touted as the next Lily Allen even though Allen is still developing her music. So, it's kind of weird to be calling someone the next *fill in new artist* since they're still maturing, but she really seems to be "the next Lily Allen". But soon, people will be saying so and so is the next Kate Nash. "Habanera" is a b-side off of her "Foundations" single.

St. Vincent
"All My Stars Aligned"
Marry Me
Official Site | MySpace | iTunes | Hypem | Lyrics
Similar Artists: Leslie Feist • Regina Spektor • Laura Veirs
St. Vincent is the moniker of Annie Clark who has played for The Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens. Her reason for the name? She says, "I felt like it could make the music 10 times bigger than I am. Besides, Annie Clark just doesn't have the same ring to it" (IndyWeek). Sometimes she reminds me of Zero 7 ("Land Mines") and sometimes she reminds me of Dusty Springfield ("What Me Worry?") and sometimes it feels like you're listening to movie since her songs are so cinematic at times ("All My Stars Aligned"). Simply fantastic musical compositions from such a young artist.

Basia Bulat
"Snakes and Ladders"
Oh, My Darling
Official Site | MySpace | Contact Music | Youtube
Similar Artists: Julie Doiron • Meg Baird • Cat Power • Leslie Feist
Basia Bulat is a folk, acoustic, singer/songwriter from London, Ontario. She sort of has a voice that could be used to sing soulful R&B songs (perhaps like Joss Stone). I like her current headline on MySpace which reads "More fun than your very own pony!". Her album isn't yet available in the US, but it's available from Rough Trade (Europe) if you're willing to fork over some import shipping plus do some money conversion and will be released in Canada on September 18 from Hardwood Records. A USA release date has not been set yet, but it's in the works.

Headlights
"Tokyo"
The Enemies EP
Official Site | iTunes | MySpace | Hypem | Polyvinyl
I've been on this Japanese kick lately ever since stopping over there this past June. I made a Japanese music compilation that I might post on here too. Well, Headlights are a three-piece band from Illinois. In 2004 they released their first EP, The Enemies EP, which is where this song is from. They're signed to Polyvinyl Records, which is also the label of Architecture In Helsinki, Matt Pond PA, Of Montreal, and many others.

Mayday
"Lost Serenade"
I Know Your Troubles Been Long
Official Site | iTunes | Hypem | Lyrics
Mayday is a band fronted by Ted Stevens from Cursive. This song has a jazzy, down-tempo influence, but not all of their songs are like this. Some are folky, some are alt-rock, some are upbeat-dancy, some are Cursive-like.
I'll be posting Saddle Creek artists for the next couple of entries, all with some sort of connection since they all seem to work on each other's albums. And then probably integrate them all into one post on WeHeartMusic.

"The Rhyme Scheme"
The Storms of Early Summer: Semantics of Song
Official Site | iTunes | Hypem | Lyrics
I was tempted to post a song from The Ugly Organ, but I feel that album is best listened to as a full album and not individual songs. So, I posted this one.
"words are always repeating, losing their meaning"
