"Sleep Machine"
Is Missing
Official Site | iTunes | Hypem | Lyrics
It's about a tv.
Phantom Planet are working on a new album and the teasers they posted are sounding quite good. It's a much harder, darker sound and far from Is Missing and The Guest, but similar to their self-titled album and maybe also influenced a bit by Radiohead since they did cover their song "Just" with Mark Ronson for the tribute album Exit Music: Songs with Radio Heads. It's definitely different though, which is what the lead singer, Alex Greenwald, has been wanting to do with every record... grow/mature with every follow-up release.
"Sleep Song (Demo)"
The Lost Album / The Chumscrubber

This song was featured in the film The Chumscrubber but that version was never released (it wasn't included on the soundtrack). Luckily a demo version is part of The Lost Album, which is an unofficial album consisting of b-sides and demos that were supposed to be part of their sophmore album Calling The World, but most of the songs got scrapped due to the delay of its release. Instead of reusing and re-recording all the material, they decided to go back to the studio and write/record new stuff. Though they did keep two songs from the demos. Also, fun fact: Rooney's lead singer, Robert Carmine, is the brother of Jason Schwartzman, though recently made the switch to Robert Schwartzman.
"Summer Day"
Nighttiming

Coconut Records is the new solo project from actor/musician Jason Schwartzman. He was in Rushmore with Bill Murray and more recently in Shopgirl with Steve Martin and Claire Danes. I'm really digging the new direction... although, the name? not so much. Also to note, he used to be in Phantom Planet.
Last Thursday marked the first official day of summer. The lyrics to this song mention rain during a summer day, which is exactly what we got here in NY for the start of summer. Apparently, this song was in Spiderman 3 (it's on the soundtrack), but I haven't seen that movie... due to poor reviews (from friends) and lack of desire to watch it.
